Chimein Recovery Services Principle Practitioner, Tina Gunter, was recently inducted as a Churchill Fellow after successfully completing her research project overseas on the topic of “investigating methods of long-term recovery from addiction.” This prestigious international award marks a significant milestone in Tina’s journey to bring about positive change in Australia.
The Churchill Trust, established in memory of Sir Winston Churchill following his death in 1965, has been providing opportunities for Australians to travel abroad and gain new insights and knowledge in their respective fields since 1966. The aim of the program is to not only enrich the lives of the fellows, but also to ensure that their research and findings have a lasting impact both locally and globally.
Tina’s induction as a Churchill Fellow was a momentous occasion, celebrated at Government House on November 09, 2023. During this event, Tina received a medallion that solidified her status as a Churchill Fellow. Tina expressed her honour and gratitude for this prestigious international award, stating, “Becoming a Churchill Fellow has been an eye-opening and life-changing experience.”
As part of her fellowship, Tina had the opportunity to travel to five different countries, including the USA (New York & Tennessee), UK (London), Netherlands, France, and Italy. In these countries, she visited an impressive 22 recovery programs, gaining invaluable knowledge and inspiration along the way. Tina was particularly moved by the extraordinary individuals she met who shared her passion for assisting those battling addiction and guiding them towards a life of recovery. Their stories, resilience, and determination re-ignited Tina’s own dedication to this cause.
Tina’s report, which marks the beginning of a new chapter in her journey, can be accessed through the Churchill Trust website. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Churchill Trust for believing in her vision and supporting her throughout the fellowship. Tina emphasised that, without their unwavering faith, none of this would have been possible. She commended the trust’s commitment to fostering research, understanding, and innovation.
Looking ahead, Tina is filled with a sense of purpose and motivation as she applies her findings in Australia. She acknowledges the challenges that lie ahead but is more determined than ever to make a tangible difference. Tina sees her induction as a Churchill Fellow as just the beginning of a lifelong commitment to improving the lives of those affected by addiction. She envisages a society that embraces compassion and provides support to those in need.
Throughout her journey, Tina has been supported by her husband, David Gunter, and her children. Their presence and encouragement have been instrumental in her success. Tina expresses her immense gratitude to everyone who has supported her along the way, whether through encouragement, guidance, or simply listening to her ideas.
Tina Gunter’s induction as a Churchill Fellow is a remarkable achievement, and her dedication to the field of addiction recovery is commendable. As she continues to put her research into practice, she carries the knowledge and experiences gained from her fellowship, ready to make a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by addiction.
