Leaving prison should mean a fresh start, but it presents a host of new challenges. Re-entering society can be overwhelming for many reasons, and unfortunately many people end up back in the system.
Struggles with substance abuse, poor mental health, availability of accommodation and lack of pro social networks are a common reason for this to occur and without appropriate treatment, these problems can affect someone’s ability to live a normal life.
This can make people more at risk of reoffending and falling back into the prison system.
Drawing on experience working within prisons and in drug and alcohol rehabilitation, the Chimein Recovery Services team has developed a set of programs aimed at rebalancing the ledger, tackling the substance and mental health challenges head on and building new pathways forward.
Having seen first-hand the patterns and choices that ultimately land people back into prison, these programs have been built to address the underlying issues, along with strengthening the five factors of ‘CHIME’ – Connectedness, Hope and Optimism, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment.
A change in story is possible but in requires a change to be made.
